Honda Unveils New Affordable EV in Japan

Honda has unveiled an affordable electric vehicle in Japan. The new compact model is called the Super-N.

Interior and packaging

The cabin features unique seats with retro-inspired bolsters and materials. The second row is narrow and intended for two passengers only.

Powertrain and driving modes

Honda confirmed a compact, efficient e-axle will be available with outputs from 47 kW to 70 kW. That equates to roughly 63 bhp to 94 bhp.

The car includes a “Boost” mode to sharpen throttle response and raise performance. Boost also adds simulated engine noises and a seven-speed transmission feel.

These settings activate via a small switch on the steering wheel. Paddles let drivers virtually change gears while moving.

Range figures

The Super-N offers a combined range of about 128 miles. A dedicated “city mode” can extend range to roughly 199 miles.

Strategic context

Honda recently reassessed its electrification plans and canceled the proposed 0 Series. Those wedge-shaped electric saloons and SUVs had been in development for years.

The company also discontinued the slow-selling e:Ny1 earlier this year. Honda currently has no electric model in its UK lineup.

As a result, the Super-N will be important for meeting ZEV targets and lowering Honda’s global CO2 average. The model’s appeal will likely focus on Europe and Japan.

What to watch next

Pricing and full performance figures remain to be announced. Filmogaz.com will monitor further updates and publish details as they emerge.
