Mario Kart Update 1.6.1 Resolves Speed Boost Glitch

Nintendo released a new patch for Mario Kart World on April 9. Players outside the U.S. saw the update arrive on April 10.

Update 1.6.1 fixes

Players are being prompted to download version 1.6.1. The update targets a persistent speed boost glitch and other stability issues.

  • Resolved cases where a speed boost did not trigger after landing from a rail ride following a Jump Boost or similar action.
  • Fixed crashes that could occur when switching between TV mode and handheld or tabletop mode. This happened after starting a multiplayer match with three or more players.

Changes from the late-March title update

A separate title update landed in the last week of March. It introduced new content and broad gameplay adjustments.

  • Added Bob-omb Blast as a Battle mode.
  • Players can hold up to 10 Bob-ombs. Throw distance now depends on how long the L Button is held.
  • Bullet Bill behavior adjusted. Lateral movement range increased and shortcut routing improved. Speed increased on parts of Bowser’s Castle, Starview Peak, and Rainbow Road.
  • Boomerang range reduced. The number of consecutive throws was also lowered.
  • Item box probabilities were rebalanced for races.
  • Invincibility after spinning or crashing now varies by character and vehicle. Heavier characters receive longer invincibility.
  • Players will not be crushed by obstacles like Thwomps while spinning or crashing.
  • It became possible to be affected by lightning or Spiny Shells immediately after being crushed by obstacles.
  • Bob-ombs and Bananas no longer bounce on the vines of Ivy Piranha Plants.
  • In Single Player or 1p during Online and Wireless Play, up to two warnings appear when items like Red Shells or Spiny Shells approach from behind.
  • The roulette time to determine the course in Online and Wireless Play was shortened.
