David Weil and Glen Powell Unite for Prime Video’s Crime Thriller ‘Calamities’
Filmogaz.com reports that Prime Video has ordered a new Texas-set crime thriller as a straight-to-series pickup. Amazon MGM Studios will produce the project.
Production and creative team
David Weil will create, write, and serve as showrunner. He previously created Hunters and worked on Citadel and Solos for Prime Video.
Weil and Natalie Laine Williams will executive produce via their Please Enjoy banner. Amazon MGM also produced Weil’s first feature, Tyrant.
Glen Powell will executive produce in a strictly behind-the-scenes role. He and Dan Cohen join as producers under their Barnstorm company.

Premise
A botched drug deal shatters calm in a border town. The town becomes a battleground for a sheriff, a sociopathic hit woman, an eager FBI agent, and a cartel faction.
Studio response
Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, praised the series. He called it a character-rich thriller and said the studio was eager to support the creative team.
Powell’s producing slate
Powell has added several producing credits recently. He is attached to a Texas Chainsaw Massacre series at A24 and exec produced How to Make a Killing.
Powell is an executive producer on Hulu’s Chad Powers. He is co-writing The Comeback King with Judd Apatow, due in 2027.
