Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson Absent from Annual Masters Champions Dinner
The annual Masters Champions Dinner took place recently, attended by 33 of the 35 living past winners. The event was held on a Tuesday night and featured legendary golfers, including the 90-year-old Gary Player and Vijay Singh. However, two of the most notable absentees were Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson Absent from Dinner
Tiger Woods had originally planned to attend, even though he was not competing at the Masters this year. Unfortunately, he was arrested for a DUI on March 27, prompting him to seek treatment for a reported addiction to painkillers in Switzerland.
Phil Mickelson’s absence stemmed from a family health issue. While details remain unclear, this situation has also prevented him from participating in the early LIV Golf events of the season. In his announcement, Mickelson expressed his respect for Augusta National Golf Club and stated, “I wish everyone the best of luck and will be watching.”
Rory McIlroy Hosts the Dinner
Rory McIlroy hosted the dinner this year after achieving a career grand slam by winning last year. The dinner showcased a menu featuring elk appetizers, wagyu filet mignon, and select fine wines.
- Attendees included 33 of 35 past Masters champions.
- Menu: elk appetizers, wagyu filet mignon.
- McIlroy made sure to acknowledge Woods and Mickelson.
Despite the absences, McIlroy emphasized the importance of remembering Woods and Mickelson. “They’ve been two of the greatest champions that the Masters has ever seen,” he remarked.
Memorable Moments and Attendance
Sandy Lyle and Vijay Singh returned to the dinner after missing the previous year’s gathering. This year was also marked by the loss of Fuzzy Zoeller, the 1979 champion, who passed away in November.
The dinner left a lasting impression as a significant event within the golfing community, blending tradition with moments of reflection for absent champions.
