Amber Alert Activated for Abducted Toddler in East Baton Rouge Parish

An AMBER Alert in East Baton Rouge Parish was canceled less than an hour after activation. Police said a one-year-old boy was located safe.

Timeline of the incident

Law enforcement reports place the vehicle theft at about 7 a.m. at the In A Flash gas station on Airline Highway. The suspect fled with the child’s mother’s vehicle while the toddler sat in the backseat.

The alert concerned an abducted toddler inside the stolen vehicle. Louisiana State Police said the suspect is believed to be armed.

Authorities activated the AMBER Alert around 8:45 a.m. The alert was canceled about 9:28 a.m.

Shortly after the cancellation, Baton Rouge officers surrounded a truck on Dutton Avenue. The vehicle matched the initial description and the child was found nearby while the truck was towed.

Suspect description and public appeal

Officials describe the suspect as an unidentified Black male. He was wearing black jeans, a black hoodie and brown boots.

Police said the suspect took the mother’s vehicle from the gas station. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
