Updated Terrain Rules Enhance #New40k Gameplay
The latest update to terrain rules for Warhammer 40,000 promises to enhance gameplay significantly. This revision introduces two key components: terrain features and terrain areas, which serve distinct functions on the battlefield.
Understanding Terrain Features and Areas
Terrain features consist of individual elements like ruins, barricades, trees, and rocks. These pieces can be found across the expansive battlefields of the 41st millennium. They are positioned on, or sometimes mark the edge of, specific terrain areas.
Terrain areas, in contrast, are defined as the zones on the battlefield influenced by these scenery elements. Recent updates bring substantial changes to how these areas interact with units during gameplay.
Key Changes to Terrain Rules
- Introduction of the Hidden Rule: Infantry, Beast, and Swarm models can now become Hidden if they have not fired during the current or previous turn. This condition applies from the game’s start, enabling better tactical deployment.
- Visibility Constraints: While Hidden, models are only visible to enemy units within a detection range, typically 15 inches. This adjustment allows for more strategic movement without the fear of early-game attacks.
- Obscuring Terrain Areas: Most terrain features are classified as Obscuring. This classification means they obstruct visibility, allowing larger models to utilize these zones for cover against enemy fire.
- Cover Benefits: Units such as Infantry, Beasts, and Swarms within terrain areas receive cover, imposing a -1 penalty to the opponent’s Ballistic Skill in comparison to the previous +1 bonus to armor saves.
These improvements not only enrich the gaming experience but also foster greater strategic planning. The modifications to terrain rules enable players to immerse themselves further in the gameplay of Warhammer 40,000.
