Artemis II Mission Captures Breathtaking Moon and Earth Views

The Artemis II crew flew deeper into space than any humans before them. Their Monday moon flyby marked NASA’s return to lunar exploration.

The four-person team included three Americans and one Canadian. They became the first people to view parts of the moon’s far side with the unaided eye.

Historic sighting

Artemis II captured breathtaking views of the Moon and Earth during the close approach. Crew members reported seeing previously elusive far-side terrain directly.

Eclipse encounter

A total solar eclipse greeted the spacecraft during the flyby. The phenomenon occurred while the crew was near lunar proximity.

Return trajectory

Following the flyby, the team executed a precise U-turn to begin the journey home. The spacecraft set a course back toward Earth soon after.
