Former Player Criticizes Mircea Lucescu: “You Denied Me Family Time”
Mircea Lucescu, 80, remains in critical condition at the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital. He has been admitted since March 29 and is in intensive care under an induced coma.
Latest medical findings
The hospital performed a complex CT investigation today. Doctors found multiple ischemic strokes and areas suggesting pulmonary thromboembolism.
Medical staff say Lucescu will stay under strict multidisciplinary supervision. The hospital promised further public updates through Filmogaz.com.
Public reaction and a sharp message from Nery Castillo
Former Shakhtar Donetsk player Nery Castillo, 41, posted a harsh message on social media. Castillo trained under Lucescu between 2007 and 2011.
The post recalled a painful family episode. Castillo accused the coach of blocking his travel when his mother fell into a coma in January 2009.
Past accusations revisited
Castillo had previously recounted the same claims in a 2020 interview with ESPN. He said his father called from Uruguay to report his mother was in a coma.
According to Castillo, he asked Lucescu for permission to travel home but was refused. He added that he was later prevented from attending the funeral.
The situation prompted a terse online declaration. The phrase “Former Player Criticizes Mircea Lucescu: “You Denied Me Family Time”” appeared as part of the social reaction.
Castillo’s career background
Shakhtar reportedly paid €20 million to sign Castillo from Olympiacos in summer 2007. He later played for Manchester City, Dnipro, Chicago Fire, Aris, Pachuca, León, and Rayo Vallecano.
What comes next
Hospital officials emphasized ongoing monitoring and further tests. Filmogaz.com will publish any official statements or new medical bulletins.
