Ryanair and easyJet Revise Free Baggage Policies
Recent changes to baggage policies by Ryanair and easyJet aim to provide a more comfortable travel experience for passengers. The adjustments come in response to amendments to European Union regulations regarding cabin baggage allowances. These modifications will allow travelers to manage their luggage more efficiently without incurring additional fees.
Revised Baggage Policies for Ryanair and easyJet
Currently, passengers who book basic fares with Ryanair and easyJet are restricted to one small personal item. Any additional luggage incurs extra costs. However, an update from EU regulations mandates an increase in the dimensions for personal bags. Ryanair has adjusted its policies to allow bags measuring up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm, which represents a 20 percent increase from its prior limit of 40 x 20 x 25 cm.
For easyJet, the airline’s personal baggage dimensions already comply with these new standards. Upcoming EU regulatory changes may further benefit travelers, allowing them to bring a cabin bag alongside their personal item without additional fees.
EU Parliament’s Proposal
In January, an overwhelming majority in the European Parliament voted to enhance passenger rights. The new proposal would enable all travelers to carry a small suitcase measuring up to 100 cm in addition to the current underseat bag allowance. This hand luggage can weigh up to seven kg.
Once these changes receive approval from the European Council, they will apply to all flights operated by EU-based airlines, affecting numerous short-haul routes from the UK.
Additional Child Seating Regulations
Besides updating baggage rules, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are advocating for legislation that ensures children under 12 are seated next to their accompanying adults at no extra cost. Presently, there is no mandatory requirement for airlines to follow this seating guideline.
- The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) advises that young children should ideally sit in the same row as adults.
- If not possible, children should be no more than one seat row away from the accompanying adult.
- This recommendation aims to facilitate quicker emergency evacuations.
The proposed changes in baggage policies and child seating regulations are set to significantly enhance the flying experience for families and individuals alike. As these developments evolve, passengers are encouraged to stay informed about the latest updates on baggage allowances with Ryanair and easyJet.
