Michigan Secures 5-Star Recruit Brandon McCoy During Fab Five Broadcast

Michigan held a 48-32 lead over Arizona at halftime of its Final Four game at Lucas Oil Stadium. During the game, five-star guard Brandon McCoy Jr. pledged to join coach Dusty May in Ann Arbor next season. The commitment came live on the Fab Five broadcast when McCoy called in.

Recruit profile

McCoy is a class of 2026 shooting guard from Chatsworth, California. He stars at Sierra Canyon and carries a five-star rating.

247Sports’ composite listing ranks him as the No. 3 shooting guard nationally. He is also the No. 3 player in California and No. 14 overall in the class. McCoy drew offers from dozens of programs, including Duke, Arizona, Miami, and Alabama.

Impact on Michigan’s incoming class

The pledge strengthens a group already viewed among the nation’s best. That class includes McDonald’s All-American Quinn Costello, plus Joseph Hartmann, Malachi Brown, and Marcus Moeller.

Recruiting services had the class among the top six nationally. Adding McCoy should push Michigan higher in the 247Sports composite rankings, which currently list the Wolverines behind Duke, Michigan State and Kansas.

High school success and announcement details

McCoy led Sierra Canyon to a 30-1 record in 2025-26. The run concluded with a state title in March.

He confirmed his choice via social media. A short video showed him switching into a Michigan starter jacket and wearing Cartier “Buffs” sunglasses, a Detroit staple.

Broadcast moment

The commitment unfolded during the Fab Five alternate broadcast. McCoy called in to make the pledge live on air.
