Weekend Watchlist: Jon Hamm’s Return in “Your Friends and Neighbors” & Spider Adventures

Filmogaz.com rounds up streaming picks for the weekend. The selection mixes new seasons, children’s hits, documentaries and classic comedies.

Your Friends & Neighbors — Season two on Apple TV

Jonathan Tropper created the series. Jon Hamm returns as Coop, a former New York hedge fund manager.

Coop pivots from finance to cat burglary. He targets the megamansions of ultrarich neighbours and takes items they will not miss.

Season two debuts April 3. James Marsden joins as Owen Ashe, an import-export neighbour with a mysterious edge.

The season explores affluence and aging. Coop struggles with a bad back while his ex-wife Mel, played by Amanda Peet, navigates perimenopause.

Spidey and His Amazing Friends on Disney+

The preschool series topped more than a billion hours streamed globally last year. Disney calls it one of its standout children’s hits.

The trio includes Peter Parker as Spidey, Gwen Stacy as Ghost-Spider, and Miles Morales as Spin. Episodes keep stakes low and lessons focused on teamwork and kindness.

Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy composed the show’s peppy theme. The 102nd episode arrives April 3.

Classic and documentary highlights

How to Beat the High Cost of Living — Prime Video

The 1980 comedy was recently added to Amazon’s streaming catalogue. It is set in Oregon and stars Susan Saint James, Jane Curtin, and Jessica Lange.

The plot follows three women coping with severe money problems. Their husbands’ actions worsen their finances, so the women plot a heist.

Personal finance columnist Mike Grenby discussed the film’s reflection of real money issues. He recommended women obtain credit cards and bank accounts without a co-signer.

Cheetah Fast and Wild — The Nature of Things on CBC

Vancouver filmmaker Joe Kennedy made this new episode. It airs April 2 at 9 p.m., then streams on CBC Gem.

The film follows two orphaned cheetah sisters, Lilly and Iris, from South Africa’s Ashia Cheetah Center. They train using remote-controlled bait and a “wilding camp” with real prey but no apex predators.

Kennedy was the first filmmaker granted access to the camp. If the sisters survive three months without help, they are released; Ashia had a 100-per-cent success rate at filming time.

You Hurt My Feelings — Crave

Nicole Holofcener directed this 2023 comedy-drama. Julia Louis-Dreyfus stars as Beth, and Tobias Menzies plays her husband, Don.

The story begins when Beth overhears Don say he disliked her new novel. The film examines how white lies affect trust and self-confidence.

Critics praised the performances. The film was added to Crave on April 3.
