Subaru Unveils Electric SUV Lineup with New Getaway Model
Subaru unveiled its 2027 Getaway SUV on Wednesday at the New York Auto Show. The model continues Subaru’s recent move into larger electric vehicles.
Platform and powertrain
The Getaway closely matches the 2027 Toyota Highlander EV in size and layout. Both use a 95.8-kWh battery pack.
Subaru will offer the Getaway only as a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive model. Output is rated at 420 horsepower, higher than the Highlander’s dual-motor 338 hp figure.
Subaru will not offer Toyota’s 221-horsepower single-motor option. The automaker plans a 77-kWh variant in 2027 for lower-cost configurations.
Charging and connectors
All Getaway models include a NACS charging port. Subaru estimates a 10% to 80% charge in about 30 minutes on Tesla Superchargers or other DC fast chargers.
Off-road and driving systems
The Getaway adds Subaru’s X-Mode drive system for varied terrain. X-Mode provides settings targeted at snow, dirt, and mud.
Ground clearance measures 8.3 inches. Subaru positions the vehicle for more off-pavement use than the comparable Toyota model.
Interior, seating and safety
The interior largely mirrors the Highlander’s layout and features. Buyers can choose six- or seven-seat configurations.
Infotainment is a 14-inch touchscreen paired with a 12.3-inch driver display. Subaru’s EyeSight suite comes standard with adaptive cruise control, lane-change assistance, and blind-spot monitoring.
Subaru does not offer a hands-free highway driving system comparable to GM’s SuperCruise.
Cargo and competition
Subaru says the Getaway provides more cargo room behind the second row than the Kia EV9. Primary rivals include the Kia EV9, Toyota Highlander EV, and Hyundai Ioniq 9.
Other three-row electric options remain largely in the luxury segment with offerings from Cadillac, Lucid, and Rivian. Volkswagen’s ID Buzz remains on pause.
Market positioning and lineup
The Getaway will be Subaru’s fourth EV in four years. It joins the Uncharted, Solterra, and Trailseeker models.
Those EVs correspond to Subaru’s Crosstrek, Forester, and Outback gas and hybrid models. The Getaway serves as the electric counterpart to the Ascent three-row SUV.
Subaru expects U.S. pricing to fall roughly between $60,000 and $70,000. The model is due to go on sale toward the end of this year.
Filmogaz.com coverage notes there are no confirmed electric WRX or BRZ models yet. Subaru leaves the door open for future sports EVs.
