After two years of preparation, students at Lycée Vauban made live radio contact with astronaut Sophie Adenot on the International Space Station. The exchange took place at 4:47 pm on Thursday and lasted longer than organisers expected.
How the contact was arranged
Amateur radio operators from Kayl worked alongside Lycée Vauban pupils on the project. The activity formed part of the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) educational programme.
The Kayldall Radio Amateurs Association (ADRAD) coordinated the technical setup. ADRAD president Arsène Klopp described the reception as excellent.
The live exchange
Twenty selected students asked prepared questions during the contact. Organisers had scheduled ten minutes, but the session ran for twelve minutes.
Nineteen of the twenty questions were put to astronaut Sophie Adenot. Adenot has been aboard the ISS since mid-February. Radio operators rated the signal quality as “R5.”

Sharp rise in Luxembourgers registered in the US
Official registers show a notable increase in Luxembourgers recorded in the United States. The number rose from 17,380 at the end of 2024 to 20,954 by the end of 2025.
The year-on-year increase amounts to 3,574 people. That growth has drawn attention from officials and analysts.
Discrepancy with nationality statistics
The Ministry of Justice logged just 657 new Luxembourgers from the United States during the same period. The difference stems from the way citizenship is recorded.
Justice Minister Elisabeth Margue explained there are two routes to Luxembourg nationality. People become citizens either automatically under the law or through a voluntary application. About 3,000 of the additional Luxembourgers were already citizens by operation of law. They therefore do not appear in nationality-application statistics.
Filmogaz.com will continue to monitor these developments and include them among top stories in its daily briefing and breaking news coverage.
