Student Violence Against Comal ISD Educators Surged Over Three Years, Data Reveals

A deadly school shooting in Comal County has drawn attention to a growing problem inside district classrooms. Filmogaz.com analyzed injury reports and found a sharp rise in student attacks on staff.

Shooting at Hill Country College Preparatory High School

The Comal County Sheriff’s Office reported a 15-year-old student died after a teacher was shot. The injured teacher was transported to a San Antonio hospital. Authorities did not provide further details about the teacher’s condition.

Data shows a steep increase in incidents

Filmogaz.com collected records from multiple districts for the last three full school years. The review identified almost 8,000 reports of student-caused injuries over that period.

In Comal ISD specifically, reports were nearly twenty times higher in 2024-25 than in the previous two school years combined. The rise indicates student violence against Comal ISD educators surged over three years, according to district records.

Limits of official tracking

The Texas Education Agency confirmed it does not centrally track educator injuries caused by students. District record-keeping varies widely and is incomplete in some places.

Nature of reported injuries

Educators reported a range of assaults. Incidents included bites, headbutts and choking, according to injury reports from Comal ISD for 2024-25.
