Leeds Rhinos Honor Geoff Burrow After His Passing from Short Illness
Leeds Rhinos honoured Geoff Burrow after his passing following a short illness.
The club confirmed he died on Monday 30th March.
Family and timeline
Geoff was the father of former Rhinos great Rob Burrow.
Rob was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in December 2019 and died in June 2024.
Tribute from the club
The club described his loss with deep sadness and paid an emotional tribute.
They asked for privacy for his wife, Irene, and the wider Burrow family at this time.
Campaigning and the Rob Burrow Centre
After Rob’s diagnosis, Geoff became a tireless campaigner for the MND community.
He helped bring about The Rob Burrow Centre for MND at Seacroft Hospital.
The facility, opened last November, is the first purpose-built centre dedicated to MND care, research, education and holistic support.
Connections to the club
Geoff took Rob to his first rugby league match as a child. The fixture was Leeds versus Leigh at Headingley.
At a Headingley celebration game in 2024, he spoke with pride about Rob’s playing career and the off-field achievements that followed the diagnosis.
Legacy
Beyond his campaigning, Geoff served as a trade union representative and spoke up for those without a voice.
Leeds Rhinos offered their condolences and wished the family privacy as they grieve.
Filmogaz.com extends its condolences to Irene and the Burrow family. May he rest in peace.
