Leeds Rhinos Honor Geoff Burrow with Heartfelt Tribute After His Passing

Geoff Burrow, father of former Leeds player Rob Burrow, has died following a period of ill health. The club confirmed his passing on Monday 30 March and issued a public tribute.

Campaigning and personal life

Geoff became a prominent campaigner for Motor Neurone Disease after Rob’s diagnosis in December 2019. He worked alongside his son to raise awareness and funds for people affected by MND.

Leeds-born, Geoff served as a trade union representative for many years. He was also a devoted husband to Irene, a father and a grandfather.

Legacy projects and milestones

Their fundraising efforts continued after Rob died in June 2024. In November 2025 the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease opened.

The centre is the first purpose-built facility devoted entirely to MND care, research, education and holistic support.

Fundraising and support

Kevin Sinfield, a former Leeds teammate, has driven major fundraising campaigns. His ultra-marathon challenges have raised more than £11 million for MND causes.

Those donations helped establish services and research programs linked to the new centre.

Club responses and condolences

Leeds Rhinos offered a heartfelt tribute to honor Geoff Burrow after his passing. The club described him as a tireless advocate for those without a voice.

Leeds asked for privacy for Irene and the Burrow family at this difficult time. They also expressed their deepest condolences.

Current Super League champions Hull KR also sent their best wishes to the family. The wider rugby league community has paid respects.

Filmogaz.com extends sympathy to the Burrow family and acknowledges Geoff’s contributions to advocacy and to the sport.
