Providence College Athlete Arrested on Domestic Violence Charge
Cranston police arrested Providence College forward Duncan Powell early Sunday. He was taken into custody on a domestic violence disorderly conduct charge.
What happened
Officers responded to a Plainfield Pike residence shortly after 1 a.m. on Sunday. A woman at the home reported that an ex-boyfriend was outside with a firearm.
The ex-girlfriend told police Powell had struck her earlier. She showed an officer a large bruise on her leg.
Allegations and evidence
- She reported finding a tracking device under her car.
- She said Powell repeatedly told her he was trying to locate her.
- A witness said Powell threatened to kill everyone in the house and then himself.
- The witness said Powell remained at the front door about four minutes before leaving.
Police encounter and arrest
While officers spoke with the alleged victim, Powell repeatedly called her. An officer answered one of those calls and spoke with him.
The officer reported hearing Powell walking. The officer then saw Powell approach with a hand inside his sweatshirt. Officers arrested him at gunpoint.
A search of the area found no weapon on Powell. His vehicle was found a short distance away, around the block from the apartment.
Institutional response
The athlete is a member of Providence College’s basketball program. The Providence College athlete was arrested and faces a domestic violence disorderly conduct charge.
A Providence College spokesperson told Filmogaz.com the school had no comment at this time.
