F1 Delays Japanese GP Race Start
Race officials confirmed a delay to the start of the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka following a support-race crash. Barriers at Turn 12 suffered significant damage after a car overturned against the fencing.
Safety repairs force schedule change
The FIA ordered repairs to the barriers before allowing the Grand Prix to proceed. Organizers delayed the formation lap to permit those safety works.
Officials set the new formation-lap time at 14:10 local. That represents a ten-minute hold on the original timetable.
What the FIA said
The federation explained the pause came after an incident in a support category. It confirmed barrier repairs were ongoing at Turn 12.
The statement noted the start of the formation lap was being held while crews made the circuit safe for the main event.
On-track consequences
Teams and drivers adjusted their pre-race plans to match the revised timing. Track personnel continued clearance and repair work before green flag procedures resumed.
Support-category incident
The support-car rolled and struck the fencing at the corner. Marshals reported visible damage to the barrier and trackside protection.
Grid and contenders
Kimi Antonelli will lead the field from pole position. His team-mate George Russell starts alongside him in second.
Both title protagonists chase their second victory of the season. The delay did not change their positions on the grid.
