Safety car and driver incident

A heavy crash involving Ollie Bearman brought out the safety car on lap 27. Marshals cleared his car and he was taken to the medical centre.

Haas later reported a 50G impact. Bearman, 20, underwent X-rays. There were no fractures, only a right knee contusion.

Mid-race battles and position changes

The restart on lap 28 produced immediate action. Lewis Hamilton gained third place on the home straight at that restart.

By lap 31, Antonelli led Piastri by 2.8 seconds. Piastri sat about a second clear of Hamilton.

Russell, Leclerc and Hamilton

George Russell spent long stretches trying to pass Hamilton. He was held up in fourth for multiple laps.

On lap 38 Russell briefly lost fourth after running out of energy into 130R. Charles Leclerc seized the position.

Leclerc then moved up again. On lap 42 he passed Hamilton on the home straight to take third.

Russell recovered on lap 43. He used an outside move in turn 2 to retake fourth from Hamilton.

Late-race status

With ten laps to go, Russell closed on Leclerc but could not make a pass. By lap 47, he remained on Leclerc’s tail.

Antonelli extended his advantage to roughly 13 seconds by lap 47. Piastri continued in second throughout this phase.

Team radio and reactions

Russell expressed frustration over team radio after the incident period. His comment reflected two difficult races in a row.

Toto Wolff acknowledged the bad luck and urged the team to assess options. The exchange highlighted Mercedes’ concerns.
