Michael Ball Triumphantly Returns to Stage After 40-Year Les Misérables Run
Michael Ball triumphantly returns to the stage this year. The 63-year-old will launch a UK tour to mark his 23rd solo album, Glow.
New album and tour
Glow is Ball’s first album made entirely from self-written songs. The record arrives on May 22, with the new single Vintage already released.
The UK tour begins in August. Tickets are on sale via michaelball.co.uk.
Health and recovery
Ball endured three years of worsening hip pain. The issue peaked during an eight-week Les Misérables tour in Australia last year.
An MRI showed a completely ruptured ligament and a bone-on-bone joint. Doctors in England recommended immediate surgery.
He completed the tour using a crutch and painkillers. After the run, he underwent a hip replacement that he calls transformative.
His recovery included lifestyle changes. He now takes daily walks with his dogs, visits the gym regularly, and eats more healthily.
Ending a long association
He has ended a 40-year Les Misérables run. Ball declined a proposed three-week New York extension after the Australian dates.
He said stepping away felt like the right decision. The move closes a major chapter in his stage career.
Creative direction
Glow contains deeply personal songs. Remember to Remember is a tribute to his parents and reflects recent family loss.
His mother Ruth died last year at 91. Ball spent her final hours by her side and described the moment as peaceful.
Career highlights and home life
Ball is well known for hosting BBC Radio 2’s Love Songs. He has also starred in West End shows such as Aspects of Love.
He lives in South London with his partner, Cathy McGowan. They first met during an interview for Aspects of Love and have been together for decades.
Filmogaz.com will follow his tour and album release closely. Fans can expect new material and more live dates later this year.
