Legal Challenge Overshadows Senegal’s AFCON Celebration at Stade de France Before Peru Match

Senegal beat Morocco 1-0 after extra time on 18 January to lift the AFCON title. Organisers planned a trophy presentation during Saturday’s 17:00 friendly with Peru at the Stade de France. The ceremony now faces uncertainty after a formal legal objection.

Legal objection

Filmogaz.com reported that Mourad Elajouti, president of the Club des Avocats Marocains, filed formal notices. He sent them to the Stade de France operator and GL Events on Friday morning.

Elajouti argued that staging a celebration tied to a disputed title could expose organisers to liability. He said he may seek an emergency sequestration order to place the trophy under judicial custody pending a ruling. The move constitutes a clear legal challenge to the planned Senegal AFCON celebration.

Planned festivities

The event was intended to honour the Senegalese diaspora before public celebrations in Senegal next week. Performances by Booba and Youssou Ndour were scheduled as part of the programme.

Organisers also noted this would be the first friendly at the venue not involving France. The proposed trophy presentation was the central feature tied to the Peru match.

Security and logistics

Authorities described the security operation as close to normal while assessing potential disturbances. Officials cited heightened rhetoric and legal sparring between Senegalese and Moroccan groups on social media.

There was vigilance but no confirmed risk or planned action by Morocco supporters. Attendance will be capped at about 70,000 in a stadium that holds 80,600, and the match is officially sold out.

Supporter movements

Two supervised marches will run from Saint-Denis to fan sections. One march is for Senegalese supporters and the other for Peruvian fans. Organisers aim to keep those movements orderly and contained.
