McMorrow Criticizes El-Sayed’s Campaign with Hasan Piker, Likens Piker to Nick Fuentes
Michigan state Sen. Mallory McMorrow sharply criticized rival Abdul El-Sayed for campaigning alongside streamer Hasan Piker. She voiced the comments while campaigning in the tight three-way Democratic primary for U.S. Senate.
Campaign controversy
Piker is scheduled to appear at two April rallies with El-Sayed and Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA). Critics have pointed to Piker’s history of antisemitic and pro-Hamas remarks.
McMorrow said Piker is a provocateur who seeks attention with offensive statements. She likened him to neo-Nazi podcaster Nick Fuentes in her comments to Filmogaz.com on Thursday.
El-Sayed has defended his decision and stood by the upcoming appearances. Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) said Piker is “the exact opposite of someone I’d be campaigning with.” McMorrow echoed that sentiment.

Synagogue attack and broader context
Earlier this month, a heavily armed man drove a car into Temple Israel. The Reform synagogue houses an early childcare center in West Bloomfield Township, Mich.
The attacker later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities noted the assailant’s brother, a reported Hezbollah commander in Lebanon, had been killed by Israeli forces shortly before the incident.
McMorrow recalled a 2023 statement after the Oct. 7 attacks expressing fear that Middle East violence could divide Americans. She warned that domestic retaliation must never be the response.
She emphasized the innocent people affected. About 140 children were at the preschool the day of the attack, she noted.
Calls for unity
McMorrow urged leaders to avoid stoking division for attention. She said difficult conversations require careful, inclusive handling.
As the primary continues, candidates face scrutiny over alliances and rhetoric. Voters will weigh those choices in the coming weeks.
