Meet Marcelle Scheyer: Wife of Duke Coach Jon Scheyer

Meet Marcelle Scheyer, the wife of Duke coach Jon Scheyer and a registered nurse based in Durham. Their partnership began on Duke’s campus in 2010 and has remained closely tied to the university.

Relationship and family milestones

Jon and Marcelle first connected as students at Duke in 2010. The couple made their relationship public on social media in 2014 and became engaged in 2015.

They married on May 6, 2017, in a private ceremony near Northbrook, Illinois. Marcelle turned 30 a month later, on June 5, 2017.

Marcelle Scheyer’s background and career

Raised in Florida, Marcelle moved to North Carolina for graduate school. She earned a master’s degree in nursing from Duke in 2016.

She works as a family nurse practitioner in Durham. Marcelle has said she did not grow up in a sports family.

Jon Scheyer’s path to the Duke bench

Jon played four seasons at Duke and helped the team win the 2010 national championship. He spent time in the NBA Summer League and played professionally in Europe after college.

He joined Duke’s coaching staff in 2013 and was named the program’s 20th head coach in June 2021. By that time he had devoted more than a decade to Duke basketball.

Community work and public presence

The couple launched the Scheyer Family Kid Captain program during the 2022–23 season. The initiative partners with Duke Children’s Hospital.

Participants enjoy game-day shootarounds, playing on Cameron Indoor Stadium’s court, and being honored during a first-half timeout. Marcelle helps lead the program and finds the experience deeply moving.

Marcelle is often seen at Duke games supporting her husband and their family. Jon’s team competed in the 2026 NCAA March Madness Tournament.
