Suspected Arson Triggers House Explosion and Evacuations in UK Village
A house in Hambleton, Lancashire exploded on the morning of 27 March 2026. Police say suspected arson sparked the blast and prompted evacuations in the UK village.
Emergency response at the scene
Fire crews from Preesall, Bispham, Fleetwood and South Shore attended. An aerial ladder platform from Blackpool also responded.
Crews reported an explosion within a domestic property. Large plumes of smoke were visible as firefighters worked to control the blaze.
Firefighting efforts
Firefighters used two jets and two breathing apparatus sets at the scene. Road closures were put in place to allow safe operations.
Officials advised the public to avoid the area and to keep windows and doors closed if they saw or smelled smoke.
Arrest and injuries
Officers arrested a 54-year-old man on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. The arrest came shortly before 10am, after a report at about 9:55am.
The suspect was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Authorities confirmed no other injuries were reported.
Evacuations and local impact
A small number of nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution. A cordon remains in place around the scene.
Carr Lane is closed both ways from Sandy Lane to Barrington Close. Local residents reported heavy congestion and gridlocked traffic.
Other emergency resources
North West Ambulance Service deployed advanced clinicians, operational commanders and Hazardous Area Response Team personnel. An air ambulance also attended.
Engineers from Cadent and Electricity North West were on site to assess utility safety.

Police said the incident is being treated as isolated while inquiries continue. An investigation is under way at the scene.
