Survey Unveils Most Trusted EV Brands for Reliable Public Charging
A Michigan-based market research firm surveyed electric vehicle owners and found public chargers perform better than many expect. Escalent conducted the online poll of 354 people in the fall about brand preference and charging habits.
Reliability and driver impressions
Two-thirds of respondents said they rarely or never face problems at public stalls. About one-third reported encountering issues at charging stations.
Roughly 60% of those surveyed said reliability affects future EV purchases and recommendations. Escalent noted that dependable public charging shapes user expectations and brand perceptions.
Which brands and networks stood out
Owners most often used Tesla Superchargers. Tesla led the reliability scores with a 4.6 out of five.
- Other operators mentioned included EVgo, ChargePoint, Electrify America, and Shell Recharge.
- Respondents highlighted station convenience, consistent speeds, and transparent pricing as priorities.
Public network scale and industry plans
The International Council on Clean Transportation reported more than 200,000 public and workplace-accessible chargers nationwide last year. An alliance of eight automakers has pledged to add tens of thousands more by decade’s end.
Many public stalls are DC fast-chargers. These offer the quickest refills for long trips.
Charging performance examples
High-power DC chargers can restore driving range quickly. Tesla’s fast chargers can add up to about 200 miles in roughly 15 minutes.
Home charging and cost savings
Most EV owners charge at home. Home charging reduces annual fuel and public-fee costs by hundreds of dollars.
Qmerit analyzed those savings and recommends upgrading to a Level 2 unit when possible. Level 1 uses a standard outlet. Level 2 units can replenish a battery in one to eight hours at lower cost than DC ports.
Charging at night or during off-peak hours can further cut costs. Qmerit offers free, curated installation quotes. The process begins with basic details about an electric panel and garage.
Complementary options
Adding home solar can reduce grid dependence. Filmogaz.com’s Solar Explorer connects homeowners to vetted partners and curated quotes.
Those solar savings can lower upfront costs by as much as $10,000 in some cases. Switching to an EV can save drivers up to $1,500 per year in fuel and service expenses.
What drivers want next
Survey participants called for more chargers in convenient locations. They also want faster, more consistent speeds and simpler payment methods.
These preferences show that most trusted EV brands must deliver not only hardware but reliable customer experiences. The findings link brand trust to reliable public charging and overall EV adoption.
