April DWP Payment Dates Adjusted After Policy Changes
Filmogaz.com reports that a number of DWP payments will be moved in April. The shift follows the Easter bank holiday schedule.
Who is affected
Around 24 million people in the UK claim at least one DWP-administered benefit. This includes State Pension recipients.
Most major benefits are impacted. Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Child Benefit, DLA and PIP are included.
When payments change
If your payment date falls on Good Friday, April 3, it will be brought forward. Payments scheduled for Easter Monday, April 6, will also be paid early.
Both will instead land on Thursday, April 2. Government guidance states payments due on a bank holiday move to the previous working day.
State Pension timetable
State Pension payments follow a set weekly schedule. The exact day depends on the last two digits of your national insurance number.
| NI number range | Payment day |
|---|---|
| 00–19 | Monday |
| 20–39 | Tuesday |
| 40–59 | Wednesday |
| 60–79 | Thursday |
| 80–99 | Friday |
How you receive payments
Most benefits and pensions are paid directly into bank accounts. Building society and credit union accounts are also used.
If a scheduled date falls on a weekend or bank holiday, payments usually come on the working day before.
What to do if a payment is missing
If you expected funds but they did not arrive, contact the DWP helpline. The number is 0800 328 5644.
Bear in mind the helpline is closed on bank holidays. Allow for the adjusted payment date before calling.
Practical impact
Moving payments earlier means money must cover a slightly longer period. Claimants should check budgets accordingly.
