Romesh Ranganathan Shines at Village Hall Comedy Night

A surprise appearance by Romesh Ranganathan delighted a packed crowd at Rawson Hall in Bolney. The stand-up visited the village hall on Saturday evening, following the Bolney Horticultural Society’s Spring Show.

Event and audience

The show was staged by production company Funny That. Tickets sold out, and 192 people attended.

Organiser Helen Mullany had teased a “huge name” beforehand. She allowed a few people to be told privately, which helped demand surge.

Romesh Ranganathan’s visit

Ranganathan, who lives in Crawley, joined the bill as a surprise guest. He performed before travelling on to a set in Brighton that same night.

The comedian is known for hosting The Ranganation and The Weakest Link. He is also an actor, writer and co-owner of a bakery.

Reaction and atmosphere

Mullany thanked the comic on Facebook for “venturing out of Crawley” and ribbing the village. She said he offered jokes about living in Bolney, which the audience enjoyed.

She told Filmogaz.com they originally booked four comedians. The extra special guest was confirmed only the week before the event.

Community effort

Volunteers helped set out chairs after the horticultural show. Mullany praised the team, saying, “It’s how a village hall works.”
