U.S. Envoy Witkoff: Iran Looks for Diplomatic Solutions
In Washington on March 26, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said Washington sent Iran a 15-point action list. He said the document would serve as a basis for negotiations to end the current conflict.
Witkoff made the remarks during a White House cabinet meeting, and he spoke to reporters afterward. He said there were signs Tehran showed interest in striking a deal.
Prospects for talks
Witkoff suggested the talks could succeed if Iran concludes it has no viable alternatives. He warned that without an agreement, the conflict could bring more death and destruction.
Many observers framed the development under the banner U.S. Envoy Witkoff: Iran Looks for Diplomatic Solutions. Officials said the timing might represent an inflection point for Tehran.
Pakistan’s role
Witkoff said Pakistan had been acting as a mediator in the contacts. He said this confirmed earlier statements by Pakistani officials.
