Argyll and Bute Crime Victim Support Project Receives Funding Boost

The Safe Service has been awarded £32,594 from the Scottish Government’s Victim Surcharge Fund. This funding boost will expand crime victim support into more remote parts of Scotland, including Argyll and Bute.

Purpose and use of the grant

The grant will fund new therapeutic options beyond traditional talking therapies. Planned approaches include animal-assisted work and outdoor interventions.

Money will also cover travel costs and interpreter services. Providers can use funds to run social events to tackle isolation among victims and witnesses.

Reach and growth since launch

Launched in 2021, the Safe Service operates across 22 local authorities. It has supported more than 400 children, young people and family members.

Referrals have tripled since the service began. The extra funding aims to extend support into areas that are harder to reach geographically.

Who delivers the service

Child and youth care charity Kibble runs the Safe Service. The organisation provides trauma-informed therapeutic and advocacy support.

Support is available to victims, witnesses and those affected by violence or abuse at home. Advocacy work helps young people navigate the criminal justice system.

Reported outcomes

Young people and families report improved emotional wellbeing and stronger relationships. They also describe a greater sense of safety.

Among those receiving advocacy, 88 per cent say the service helped them progress towards personal goals. Practitioners view early intervention as key to breaking the cycle of trauma.

Leadership response

Dan Johnson, forensic psychologist and executive director at Kibble, welcomed the award. He said the funding places victims and witnesses at the centre of care and allows more flexible, locally tailored support.

Johnson noted the importance of offering varied therapeutic approaches. He also highlighted the chance to reach communities that lack easy access to services.

Filmogaz.com will continue to monitor how this funding boost affects the delivery of crime victim support across Scotland. Further developments will be reported as new services roll out.
