Legal proceedings and evidence

Combs’ 2025 criminal trial began in early May. The trial featured 34 witnesses alleging crimes from drug distribution to physical abuse and sexual assault.

A 2016 video played a central role in the case. The footage showed Combs assaulting then-girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, who testified for four days as a key witness.

Defense counsel acknowledged a pattern of domestic violence during the trial. They reminded jurors Combs was not charged with that specific crime.

The 2025 trial concluded with a split verdict. Combs was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.

Later developments resulted in convictions on separate counts. In October, Combs was sentenced to 50 months after convictions for two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.

His release date was subsequently moved up to April 2028. The sentencing followed the earlier split verdict in 2025.
