Seattle Mariners Position Players Poised to Defend AL West Crown
The Seattle Mariners enter the season with high expectations on both sides of the ball. Their pitching staff benefits from a pitcher-friendly home park and a rotation that still projects as a major strength.

T-Mobile Park’s dimensions and cool climate favor hurlers. The venue’s quirks also suppress overall offense.

Rotation outlook
Last season’s starters posted a 3.97 ERA, 4.02 FIP and 4.03 xERA as a unit. Those numbers were solid but left room for improvement.
The staff lost more than 60 innings compared with prior expectations. Injuries sidelined all but Luis Castillo among the top five arms from 2024.
Key arms to watch
Bryan Woo broke out and established himself as an efficient workhorse. He carries a lifetime .246 BABIP in nearly 400 professional innings.
George Kirby has adjusted his approach. He is working edges more and may trade some walks for extra strikeouts.
Luis Castillo remains the durable force. His value comes from reliably giving six quality innings every fifth start.

Injury and depth concerns
Bryce Miller is expected to begin the year on the injured list. Logan Evans is out while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Emerson Hancock showed promise in short relief late last season. The club prefers to preserve him as a rotation option rather than overuse him in the bullpen.
Depth arms such as Cole Wilcox and Yosver Zulueta hold minor-league options. They are likeliest candidates to start the year in Triple-A Tacoma.
