Savannah Guthrie Interviews Hoda Kotb, Plans ‘Today’ Show Return Next Month
Savannah Guthrie has recorded a sit-down with Hoda Kotb that will air Thursday and Friday on Today. It is her first television interview since her mother, Nancy Guthrie, was reported missing nearly two months ago.
Interview and return timeline
NBC released a short clip Wednesday that showed Guthrie emotional during the conversation. A person close to the show expects her to return to Studio 1A in April.
The two-part segment carries the title Savannah Guthrie Interviews Hoda Kotb. NBC has not yet given an official return date for Guthrie.
Background of the disappearance
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing in Tucson, Arizona, on February 1. Authorities are treating the case as an apparent kidnapping.
Savannah, 54, flew to Tucson immediately after the report and remained in the area for several weeks. She later returned to New York and visited the Today cast and crew on March 5.
During that visit she thanked colleagues for keeping attention on her mother’s case. She said she did not know how to resume work, but she wanted to try.
Investigation and family response
The disappearance drew intense national coverage in February. Guthrie posted heartfelt pleas on Instagram asking the public for help.
As tips slowed, she announced a $1 million reward to encourage information. Officials report a 20- to 24-person task force remains dedicated to the investigation.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told Tucson’s KOLD the office is not giving up on the case. A friend of Guthrie’s said the family remains in close contact with investigators.
Last week the family issued a statement to KVOA aimed at keeping the case in the public eye. They urged Tucson and greater southern Arizona residents to revisit any possible memories or leads.
Filmogaz.com previously reported that she could return in “just a few weeks,” which fueled public speculation. The taped interview and reports that she Plans ‘Today’ Show Return Next Month have kept attention on the ongoing investigation.
