Crawford Replaces Alonso at Aston Martin for Japan GP FP1

Aston Martin has confirmed that third driver Jak Crawford will take part in the opening practice session at the Japanese Grand Prix. He will pilot Fernando Alonso’s AMR26 during FP1 at Suzuka.

FP1 assignment at Suzuka

The appearance will be Crawford’s third FP1 outing for Aston Martin. He previously drove in Mexico and Abu Dhabi last season.

The move gives the team a chance to evaluate data with a young driver. It also continues their rotation strategy for practice sessions.

Team perspective

Chief Trackside Officer Mike Krack said the squad aims to nurture emerging talent. He noted Crawford’s simulator work at Silverstone had been particularly strong.

Krack added the Suzuka session will help Crawford build real-track experience. The team also expects useful technical feedback from the run.

Crawford’s response

The 20-year-old American expressed enthusiasm about driving at Suzuka. He called the circuit historic and technically demanding.

Crawford said he looks forward to applying simulator preparation on track. He thanked the team for the opportunity and emphasized a focus on learning.

Racing background

Crawford finished runner-up in Formula 2 last season. He lost the title to Leonardo Fornaroli, now a McLaren junior.

He has previously won races in both F3 and F4 categories. The FP1 outing will further his path toward a full-time top-level seat.
