Falcons Secure Former 49ers RB in Free Agency Deal
The Atlanta Falcons agreed to terms with running back Brian Robinson Jr., a move reported by NFL insider Jordan Schultz on Tuesday afternoon. The team signed the 26-year-old in a free agency deal to bolster its backfield for 2026.
Robinson joins Atlanta as a backup to starter Bijan Robinson. He arrives after stops with the San Francisco 49ers and Washington, carrying the label of a former 49ers RB.
Player profile and recent production
Robinson was a third-round draft pick. He offers a more complete skill set than some power-oriented runners. Atlanta views him as a versatile complement rather than a direct clone of Tyler Allgeier.
Last season he rushed for 400 yards and scored two touchdowns while backing up Christian McCaffrey. He previously eclipsed 700 rushing yards in each of his first three NFL seasons.
His career receiving numbers include 73 catches for 612 yards and five receiving touchdowns. Across four NFL campaigns, he has compiled more than 2,700 rushing yards and 22 total touchdowns.
Related roster moves
The Falcons also brought in veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian on Tuesday. Both signings were confirmed in the same report.
What this means for Atlanta
The additions give Atlanta more depth behind Bijan Robinson. The free agency deal aims to balance explosiveness and receiving ability in the backfield.
