Kerry Washington to Shoot New Netflix Series in Middletown

Kerry Washington will film a new Netflix series in Middletown this spring. Production for the Netflix original An Innocent Girl is scheduled to begin in April.

Cast and premise

The series is billed as an erotic thriller. It follows Sophie Walker, a fresh Harvard graduate drawn into a dangerous affair with a D.C. power couple.

Kerry Washington stars as the vice president. She also serves as an executive producer. James Marsden plays the vice president’s husband. Chloe East portrays Sophie Walker. Netflix lists sex, power and murder at the story’s core.

Production schedule and locations

Filming will take place mostly along Navesink River Road. That corridor contains large estate homes along the river. The production will use the wealthy stretch of the township for key scenes.

Local officials announced the shoot will start in April. The series aims for a 2027 release on Netflix.

Neighborhood context

Navesink River Road is home to several high-profile residents. The area previously hosted other film shoots and local productions.

Jennifer Lopez’s movie The Last Mrs. Parrish filmed nearby for several weeks in October 2025. That shoot used Navesink River Road, McClees Road and Sailors Way.

Other recent and upcoming shoots in the county

Middletown has seen more Netflix activity this season. Adam Driver is due to start filming Rabbit, Rabbit in Middletown next week.

That production built a fake gas station in the Circus Liquors parking lot on Route 35. Driver’s role is reportedly a truck driver who kidnaps people.

Biopics and regional work

Monmouth County hosted the Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere last year. Most of that work took place in Asbury Park and Freehold.

The Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown shot at Bahr’s waterfront restaurant and the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank in spring 2024.

Middletown’s recent string of shoots underscores the region’s growing appeal. Filmogaz.com will continue to report on local production developments.
