“‘Starfleet Academy’ Concludes After Season 2 Finale”

Filmogaz.com reports that Paramount will not renew Starfleet Academy. The streaming series will end after its second season.

Official statement and production update

CBS Studios and Paramount+ issued a joint statement praising the show and its creative team. They thanked Alex Kurtzman, Noga Landau, Gaia Violo, the cast, and crew.

The companies said they look forward to sharing the upcoming second and final season with audiences. Principal photography for season two wrapped in late February 2026.

Reception and viewership

The series earned generally strong critical reviews despite occasional controversy. The 10-episode debut season did not reach Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming charts.

Co-showrunner Alex Kurtzman remains publicly hopeful about Star Trek’s future on streaming platforms. Still, low viewership contributed to decisions about the show’s fate.

Where this leaves the franchise

The decision arrives during Star Trek’s 60th anniversary year. For the first time since the streaming renaissance began, no Star Trek series is in active principal production.

Both Starfleet Academy and Strange New Worlds are currently in post-production. Strange New Worlds completed filming on a truncated fifth season in December 2025.

Paramount’s strategic shift

Paramount completed an $8 billion merger last year. Company priorities have shifted toward theatrical projects rather than series development.

The only confirmed new Star Trek project announced since the merger is a feature film. That movie will be directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.

Projects pitched and in development

At least two television concepts remain under consideration. Henry Alonso Myer and Akiva Goldsman pitched Star Trek: Year One, continuing the USS Enterprise after Strange New Worlds.

The Year One pitch would reportedly feature Paul Wesley’s Captain Kirk. Separately, Tawny Newsome and Justin Simien were announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 as developing a live-action Star Trek comedy.

Newsome serves as a producer on Starfleet Academy and stars in Lower Decks. Little public progress has been reported on either new series since their announcements.

What to expect next

Paramount appears focused on clearing recent projects and prioritizing film development. That focus may slow new TV commitments in the near term.

Starfleet Academy concludes its story with a season two finale set to reach fans in the coming months. CBS Studios and Paramount+ said they will continue to celebrate the cast, crew, and creative achievements.
