Fritz Triumphs Over Van De Zandschulp at 2026 Miami Open
Taylor Fritz and Reilly Opelka both reached the third round at the 2026 Miami Open on Friday. The pair will meet in an all-American matchup next.
Fritz survives three-set test
Fritz, the tournament’s No. 6 seed and world No. 7, won in three sets. He defeated Botic van de Zandschulp 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-3.
Van de Zandschulp, ranked No. 65, had arrived in Miami after beating Denis Shapovalov 7-5, 6-3. At the 2026 Miami Open, Fritz triumphed after a lengthy battle and regained control in the deciding set.
Opelka advances with dominating serve
Reilly Opelka, ranked No. 67, beat Jack Draper in straight sets. The score was 7-6(3), 7-6, with Opelka winning both tiebreaks.
Draper came in off a quarter-final run at Indian Wells and had been considered a contender. Opelka leaned on his powerful serve and earlier survived a three-set match with Nuno Borges, 6-7(6), 6-2, 7-6(5).
Third-round outlook
The Fritz–Opelka meeting will decide who leads the bottom quarter. The winner looks set to be a strong contender for a deep tournament run.
