Yankees Finalize Opening Day Roster Amid Spring Training Updates

The New York Yankees made final roster decisions on Saturday. Several players learned their roles for Opening Day.

Roster moves and bench picture

The club informed outfielder Randal Grichuk that he made the big-league roster. Grichuk produced a .308 OPS in limited spring action.

New York reassigned infielder Paul DeJong and utilityman Seth Brown to minor league camp. Utilityman Oswaldo Cabrera and infielder Max Schuemann were optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Likely reserve group

  • J.C. Escarra
  • Paul Goldschmidt
  • Amed Rosario
  • Randal Grichuk

Except for Escarra, those reserves bat right-handed. They offer platoon advantages against left-handed pitching.

These changes reflect the Yankees Opening Day roster planning and Spring Training updates.

Jasson Domínguez to Triple-A

Jasson Domínguez learned on Friday he will begin the season in Triple-A. He said the decision did not surprise him.

Domínguez had a strong game Saturday. He went 2-for-3 with three batted balls over 100 mph and a three-bagger.

Most of his damage came against southpaw Framber Valdez. In the 2026 Grapefruit League, Domínguez has a 1.000 OPS as a right-handed hitter versus lefties.

Pitching update: Yovanny Cruz

The Yankees sent right-hander Yovanny Cruz to minor league camp. That move ended his bid for a major-league roster spot.

Cruz recorded another scoreless inning on Saturday. He finished spring training with three scoreless frames and five strikeouts.

Scouts note his fastball can reach triple digits. His command still needs work for sustained big-league use.
