Santa Barbara, Lompoc Join ‘No Kings’ Protests Nationwide on March 28

Thousands of rallies are planned across the United States on March 28. The third national day of nonviolent action is organized by the Indivisible coalition. Santa Barbara and Lompoc will join nationwide ‘No Kings’ protests on March 28 as part of the effort.

Movement background

Indivisible says the “No Kings” effort began in 2025 as a single day of defiance. The campaign has since expanded into a sustained national movement. Organizers report more than 3,000 events registered so far.

Past actions drew large crowds, the group says. Indivisible reported more than five million participants on June 14, 2025. The Oct. 18, 2025 mobilization reached over seven million people across 2,700 events. An estimated 13,000 attended a No Kings rally in downtown Santa Barbara on Oct. 18, 2025.

South Coast events

Santa Barbara

Indivisible Santa Barbara schedules its rally from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Alameda Park, 1400 Santa Barbara Street. The program will open with local nonprofit tables and community groups. A midday rally is planned around 12:30 p.m., followed by speeches and a march toward De La Guerra Plaza near 2 p.m.

Event times are subject to change. Ian Paige serves as vice president of Indivisible Santa Barbara and is the principal local organizer. Local leaders say the rally will oppose actions they describe as authoritarian and will emphasize democratic norms.

Lompoc

Lompoc organizers plan a sidewalk demonstration from noon to 2 p.m. at North H Street and Central Avenue. Participants are asked to RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/908223. Local coordinators describe the event as a family-friendly afternoon of chanting, singing and sign-holding.

Organizers stress a pledge to nonviolence consistent with national Indivisible guidelines. Sam Taylor is listed as a Lompoc event organizer. The local effort aims to bring residents together across the community.

Partners and organizing

National and local groups are backing the mobilization. Indivisible lists several partner organizations supporting the actions.

  • American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
  • American Federation of Teachers
  • Common Defense
  • Human Rights Campaign
  • League of Conservation Voters
  • MoveOn
  • National Nurses United
  • Public Citizen
  • Service Employees International Union (SEIU)

A complete partner list is available at nokings.org/partners. Local organizers also coordinate with community groups and volunteers.

Youth involvement and safety measures

Student organizers have increased youth participation in Santa Barbara. Tallula Borman, a UCSB undergraduate, helped found Indivisible Isla Vista. SBCC student organizer Calli Fonua cited personal experiences and community impacts as motivating factors.

Indivisible requires de-escalation training for local teams. Each event designates a safety lead and coordinates with partners. Organizers repeatedly ask participants not to bring weapons and to follow lawful protest practices.

The March 28 mobilization is framed as a defense of democratic norms ahead of the November elections. Attendees are advised to confirm details with local organizers before participating.
