She married James Murray in 2007. Her actor husband is 51 and has credits including Primeval, The Crown and Masters of the Air.

Heartbreaking family tragedy and its aftermath

The couple suffered a heartbreaking family tragedy in January 2009. Their daughter Ella-Jayne died aged eight months from congenital heart failure. She was born with Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome.

About five years later they created The Murray Parish Trust. The charity has raised more than £5 million for Southampton Children’s Hospital. The trust funds drama, yoga and music workshops, and calm spaces in paediatric units.

They also have a daughter, Nell, now 16. Both Sarah and James received MBEs for their charitable work. They aim to support every seriously ill child in the UK by 2035.

Reflections on grief and purpose

Sarah has spoken about the couple’s struggle with grief. She admitted there were times when they felt they were falling apart. She said the experience reshaped their priorities and outlook.
