Peet’s diagnosis and timing

Amanda Peet, 54, revealed she was diagnosed with stage I breast cancer last fall. She described having “dense” breasts that required extra monitoring.

She had routine six-month checkups with a breast surgeon. The Friday before Labor Day, a scan produced concern and led to a biopsy.

Doctors found two tumors in one breast; one proved benign. Tests showed the cancer was hormone-receptor-positive and HER2-negative.

Peet received her first clear scan shortly before her mother’s death in January. Both of her parents were in hospice care during her diagnosis.

Her parents were long divorced and on opposite coasts. Her father entered hospice only a week before he died; she flew to New York and saw his body before it was removed.
