Nick Hexum Discusses Americana, Fitness, and Chappell Roan on WFPK
Filmogaz.com recently spoke with Nick Hexum, the longtime singer and frontman of 311. He described his recent solo work and new musical directions.
Solo output and new instruments
In 2025, Hexum released three EPs and a full-length album. The record is largely original material.
He leaned into stringband music and Americana. Hexum also learned to play pedal steel, mandolin, and banjo.
Artistic approach and influences
Hexum said the music taps into a nostalgic side of his taste. He called that feeling a driving force behind the songs.
Despite new projects, he emphasized that 311 remains his primary passion. He described the band as his first love and life’s work.
Cover tracks and collaborations
Hexum recorded a version of Chappell Roan’s song “California.” He discussed why that tune resonated with him.
He also appears on a new track titled “Dim Summers” with bluegrass/punk band Water Tower. Both recordings show his interest in roots-based sounds.
Radio and conversation
During interviews, Hexum touched on Americana and even fitness. He spoke with local outlets, including Louisville’s WFPK, about those topics and Chappell Roan.

Hexum is touring with Water Tower on the Nothing But The Truth Tour. The run includes a stop in Louisville on April 5, 2026.
