Rangers’ Confidence in Ryan Naderi as Danny Rohl Defends £4.5m Signing
Danny Rohl has publicly backed new forward Ryan Naderi despite his slow start at Rangers. Naderi arrived from Hansa Rostock on transfer deadline day in January for a reported £4.5m. He has failed to score in the Scottish Premiership so far, with his only goals coming in the Scottish Cup against Queen’s Park.
Rohl’s assessment of Naderi
Rohl emphasised the striker’s work rate and positional intelligence. He says Naderi often creates space and finds strong attacking positions.
The manager highlighted Naderi’s ability to operate on the last defensive line and to link play between the lines. Those traits, Rohl argued, justify playing him alongside a different type of centre forward.
Strike partnership and team responsibility
Naderi has been paired with Youssef Chermiti as a two-striker option. Neither has produced a high goal return in a Rangers shirt yet.
Rohl urged teammates to offer more support. He singled out the need for better passing and extra diagonal balls to unlock chances.
Rangers’ confidence in Ryan Naderi remains evident, the manager said, even as he asks the squad to improve service to the forwards.
Squad update: Thelo Aasgaard
Midfielder Thelo Aasgaard has also struggled for consistent form this season. He joined from Luton Town in the summer for around £3.5m but has recently been a peripheral figure.
Aasgaard came off the bench against St Mirren and had a goal ruled out for offside. Rohl praised his mentality and said the player keeps improving in training.
Title race and upcoming schedule
Rangers beat St Mirren 1-0 in Paisley to re-enter the Premiership title conversation. The side now sit three points behind leaders Hearts with eight matches remaining.
Rohl said results matter more than style as the run-in tightens. He stressed the importance of winning the next game and securing points before the international break.
Rangers prepare to face Aberdeen at Ibrox on Saturday. Time is short and every dropped point could prove decisive in the title run-in.
