23 Arrested in Downtown St. Louis on First Night of Juvenile Curfew

Police detained 23 youths late Friday into early Saturday after an extension of the downtown juvenile curfew. Authorities said the detentions were recorded by 2 a.m. Saturday.

Detentions and demographics

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department posted an update on social media. Officers say 17 of the youths live in St. Louis County and six live in St. Louis City.

The youngest person taken into custody was 11 years old. Before the curfew began, three teenagers were detained for failing to comply and for interfering with officers.

Curfew details and enforcement

The order covers anyone aged 17 and under in Downtown and Downtown West. The nightly restrictions run from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

The curfew was active on the nights of Friday, March 20, Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22. Police said the measure applied beginning on the first night of the extended order.

Context for the restriction

The temporary curfew followed violent street takeovers that occurred downtown and in other locations the prior weekend. Officials described the extension as a public-safety response.
