Union’s Jeong Aims for Hat-Trick Against Munich

Union Berlin travel to Munich on Saturday for a high-profile fixture against Bayern Munich. Fans will watch Wooyeong Jeong closely because he could achieve something rare.

Jeong’s Bundesliga journey

Wooyeong Jeong has been under contract at 1. FC Union Berlin since 2025. The 26-year-old South Korean played for Bayern Munich, SC Freiburg and VfB Stuttgart beforehand.

At Bayern he mostly featured for the second team. He made one first-team appearance in 2018/19 and therefore shares in the Bundesliga title from that season.

Jeong moved from Munich to Freiburg and spent three seasons there. He signed for VfB Stuttgart in 2023, then joined Union on loan after one year. A permanent transfer followed the next season.

Current season and scoring form

This season Jeong has appeared 24 times in the Bundesliga and scored three goals. His goals have come at important moments for Union.

His first strike arrived on matchday 16 in a 2-2 draw with Mainz 05. The second came in the 83rd minute against Stuttgart and secured a 1-1 draw.

The most recent goal was the winner in Freiburg. He scored in the second minute of stoppage time to seal a 1-0 away victory. That goal also came after he entered as a substitute.

Goals against former clubs

Two of Jeong’s three goals this season have been against former employers. He scored against Stuttgart and then against Freiburg, his old teams.

Supporters hope he can repeat the feat in Munich. Scoring at Bayern would complete a trio of strikes at stadia of his previous clubs.

Outlook for Saturday

Whether Jeong starts or comes off the bench remains undecided. He has a recent record of impacting matches as a substitute.

Fans and teammates know what is at stake. If he scores in Munich, it would be another memorable moment for Union and for Jeong as he aims for a late-season flourish.
