Crimson Desert Console Review: PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X Performance

Crimson Desert arrived in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Filmogaz.com rated the game 7 out of 10 in its review. The developer behind the title is Pearl Abyss.

General platform notes

PC remains the strongest platform for visual fidelity and performance. A powerful rig will showcase the game best. Consoles are more plug-and-play, but they show clear trade-offs.

PlayStation 5 Pro performance

On PS5 Pro the game offers three display modes. Each mode trades resolution for framerate.

Mode Resolution Framerate
Performance 1080p 60 FPS
Balanced 1440p 40 FPS
Quality 4K 30 FPS

Variable refresh rate (VRR) greatly improves the experience. With VRR off, noticeable screen tearing appears, even in sparse areas. I tested on an LG C-series OLED TV and saw tearing without VRR.

Performance and Balanced modes show conspicuous pop-in. Foliage and terrain load-in are the most distracting. Quality mode reduces pop-in but locks the game at 30 FPS.

Turning off 120Hz on the TV yielded little change. Frame rates held steady in early sections. Reports suggest larger towns and big battles can cause instability.

Pearl Abyss has already issued a patch to address visual problems. Expect incremental improvements over the coming weeks.

Xbox Series X performance

The Xbox Series X presentation largely mirrors the PS5 Pro. Visual parity is clear across many comparisons. VRR helps, and screen tearing was less frequent in my colleague’s tests.

Environmental pop-in remains an issue on Xbox. Character fur and hair render poorly at times. Kliff’s beard looks notably fractured on several settings.

The most severe problem on Xbox is input latency. Button presses often lag on-screen actions. Menu scrolling can feel sluggish, and combat timing suffers as a result.

Despite technical faults, the game produces striking vistas when the world finishes loading. Distant draw distance and scenery can look impressive in static moments. Pearl Abyss continues to patch both console and PC builds.

How to choose a mode

Pick Quality if you prioritize visual detail and stable 30 FPS. Choose Performance for higher framerates but expect more visual pop-in. Balanced sits between the two with a 1440p/40FPS compromise.

Our Crimson Desert console review material focused on PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X performance differences. If you own a capable PC, it remains the recommended platform for the best overall experience.

Filmogaz.com will continue to monitor patches and update impressions as performance improves.
