Slay the Spire 2 Fans React to Difficulty-Enhancing Patch

Mega Crit released a major balance update for Slay the Spire 2 on Thursday night. The patch altered cards, enemies, UI elements, and some artwork.

Within 24 hours, many players voiced anger on Steam. The patch both nerfs common strategies and strengthens several foes, including the final boss.

What changed

The notes cover card tuning, interface tweaks, and art updates. A new Phobia Mode replaces potentially triggering images with milder alternatives.

Shops now sell Relics for 25 gold less. The update also includes multiple quality-of-life fixes.

Card balance and infinite plays

Developers targeted so-called infinite turns. These are combos that let a player repeatedly generate massive resources or damage.

The Silent saw a notable change to Prepared. The card no longer provides a free draw-discard and now forces extra discards for delayed energy.

That adjustment affects discard-heavy Silent builds. Players say it reduces common looping strategies.

Enemy buffs and bosses

Several enemies received buffs in the same patch. The final boss, Doormaker, gained a new mechanic that consumes every tenth drawn card.

Doormaker also deals heavy damage on many turns. The Regent faced nerfs to popular options such as Glow and Charge.

Player reaction

Fans reacted quickly and loudly to the difficulty-enhancing patch. Steam saw nearly 8,000 negative reviews within a few hours.

A longtime player with 67 hours on record posted a harsh critique. One of the most upvoted responses came from Leo Dilu and spans 17 paragraphs.

Leo argues the studio did not fix root causes behind infinites. He also highlights problems with Elite battles that push players toward certain builds.

Some users point out multiplayer issues. Long infinite turns can stall cooperative matches and frustrate teammates.

Other players say nerfs to single-player strategies are harmful without clear alternatives. They want balanced options, not just restrictions.

Experimental branch and Early Access context

The changes arrived on the Experimental Steam branch. Players had to opt in to test these adjustments.

Slay the Spire 2 is still in Early Access. Developers may revise mechanics before the full release.

Filmogaz.com will monitor further updates and player responses. Expect additional balance patches as testing continues.
