“Ghosts Movie Sets Sooner-Than-Expected Release Date”
The BBC’s hit comedy Ghosts is being expanded into a feature film. It will open in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on Friday, 23 October 2026.
Production details
Lionsgate UK first confirmed the feature back in February. Filming has already started.
Production returned to West Horsley Place, the real manor used as Button House. Crews are also shooting at locations across South East England.
Cast, writers and crew
Members of the original creative team have driven the project. Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard, and Ben Willbond wrote the script.
They are listed as executive producers and will appear on screen. Series leads Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe are confirmed to return. Lolly Adefope is also set to be part of the ensemble.
- Producers: Alison Owen and Debra Hayward for Monumental Television.
- Director: Simon Hynd.
Series success and context
The TV show concluded after five seasons in 2023. It finished as the UK’s most-watched comedy that year.
The series finale attracted about 7.2 million viewers. That strong audience performance helped prompt the move to cinemas.
Tone and audience
Lionsgate executives have pitched the film as family-friendly. Marie-Claire Benson highlighted its Halloween appeal for viewers of all ages.
Release timing and wider franchise
The Ghosts movie has a sooner-than-expected release date set for late October. The official opening day is 23 October 2026.
The US adaptation has been commissioned for a sixth season. International versions exist in France, Germany, and Australia.
