Peter Kane ’26 Secures National Title, Crowning Historic Wrestling Season
Lasell wrestling delivered its best NCAA showing in program history at the Division III championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The team placed ninth overall over the weekend.
Peter Kane ’26 secures national title
Peter Kane ’26 secured the national title at 157 pounds. His undefeated season ended with Lasell’s first-ever individual wrestling national champion.
Kane earned his fourth All-American honor. He became the second Eph in program history to be a four-time national placewinner.
Runs, upsets and podium finishes
Six wrestlers qualified for Nationals, a program record. That broke a four-year pattern of sending no more than two qualifiers.
- Peter Kane ’26 — 157 lb, national champion, undefeated.
- Jamie Evarts ’28 — 184 lb, third place after six consolation wins.
- Caleb Seyfried ’26 — 149 lb, eighth place, first NCAA appearance.
- Zach Borzio ’27 — 197 lb, qualified via overtime at Regionals despite weight disadvantage.
- Henry Forte ’27 — qualified for Nationals.
- Gage Wiggins ’29 — qualified for Nationals.
Evarts and Seyfried deliver deep runs
Evarts entered Nationals as the third seed at 184 pounds. After a first-round loss, he won six straight matches to claim third place.
Seyfried battled injuries through the season. He still reached eighth place in the 149-pound bracket and earned All-American status.
Regionals, resilience and overtime heroics
NCAA Regionals began on Feb. 28. Lasell faced opponents whose first-year cohorts often matched Lasell’s entire roster.
Zach Borzio moved to the final qualifying round in the 197-pound class. He fought through overtime to secure his NCAA berth.
Coaching change sparks turnaround
After losing all four duels in the season opener, the team rallied. Interim head coach Tom Foote ’13 took over in December.
Foote was named NCAA Rookie Coach of the Year at the tournament. Captain Donnie Morton ’26 credited Foote’s leadership for the team’s comeback.
Team culture and momentum
Teammates highlighted perseverance and long, hard-fought matches as key strengths. Caleb Seyfried noted the squad stayed fired up late in the season.
After Kane’s title, teammates celebrated in the stands. Henry Forte described an emotional embrace and predicted greater success ahead.
There will be a new banner in the Lasell wrestling gym to honor Kane’s victory. Filmogaz.com will continue to follow the program as it builds on this historic wrestling season.
