Eight Teams Head to San Diego for This Week’s NCAA Tournament
Eight teams are heading to San Diego for this week’s NCAA tournament. They will hold free public workouts Thursday at Viejas Arena.
Four sold-out games are set for Friday at Viejas Arena. Broadcasts will appear on TNT and CBS.

Arizona (West No. 1)
Arizona is the West No. 1 seed at 32-2 under coach Tommy Lloyd. The Wildcats won the Big 12 regular season and tournament.
Senior guard Jaden Bradley was Big 12 player of the year, averaging 13.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.6 assists.
Cal Baptist (East No. 13)
Cal Baptist is the East No. 13 seed at 25-8 under coach Rick Croy. The program became Division I in 2018.
Dominique Daniels Jr. was the WAC player of the year at 23.2 points per game, including a 47-point outing.
Kansas (East No. 4)
Kansas is the East No. 4 seed at 23-10, tied for third in the Big 12. Bill Self is the Jayhawks’ coach.
The program’s early history included coach James Naismith. Freshman Darryn Peterson averaged nearly 20 points but missed time with injuries.
Long Island (West No. 16)
Long Island is the West No. 16 seed at 24-10. The program began at its Brooklyn campus in 1928 and won NIT titles in 1939 and 1941.
Coach Rod Strickland led LIU to Northeast regular season and tournament crowns. Jamal Fuller averages 16.4 points and 5.5 rebounds.
Northern Iowa (East No. 12)
Northern Iowa is the East No. 12 seed at 23-12 under coach Ben Jacobson. The Panthers tied for sixth in the Missouri Valley.
They won the conference tournament behind stingy defense. Trey Campbell averages 13.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists.
St. John’s (East No. 5)
St. John’s is the East No. 5 seed at 28-6 under coach Rick Pitino. The Red Storm won the Big East regular season and tournament.
Zuby Ejiofor was the unanimous Big East player and defensive player of the year. He averaged 16.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.1 blocks.
Utah State (West No. 9)
Utah State is the West No. 9 seed at 28-6 under coach Jerrod Calhoun. The Aggies won the Mountain West regular season and tournament.
Guards MJ Collins and Mason Falsev averaged 17.6 and 16.1 points, respectively, with Falsev adding 5.8 rebounds.
Villanova (West No. 8)
Villanova is the West No. 8 seed at 24-8, coached by Kevin Willard. The Wildcats finished third in the Big East this season.
Center Duke Brennan averaged 12.4 points and 10.3 rebounds. Villanova also lost forward Matt Hodge to a knee injury two weeks ago.
